Our Story: Marketing Truth, LLC began as a seed planted in the heart of Founder and CEO, Ashley Card—an idea inspired by God that first took shape as a digital portfolio for a graduate course at Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA.The project challenged students to stay ahead of the rapidly evolving marketing, media, and communications landscape that was shifting decisively toward digital platforms. What started as a class assignment quietly became the foundation for something much bigger. Although Ashley pursued her M.A. in Digital Media Communications with the long-term vision of creating a full marketing and production firm, she never imagined launching a freelance business along the way. That changed in June 2017. After graduation, the nation entered a recession that left many professionals without stable opportunities—especially in creative and digital fields. With limited openings available, Ashley relied on her undergraduate degree in psychology and her minor in dance. In trying to find stability in an unstable economy, she started doing minor work in the Digital Media Fields in the largest neighboring city to Virginia Beach, VA, Washington, D.C. Washington, D.C. happened to be one of the most economically stable areas at the time. She then migrated back south to Atlanta, GA. She also performed with professional dance companies while doing arts administration, taught dance in local studios. She eventually settled down in South Carolina and became a full-time public school dance educator. During this season, she launched her own performing arts and character education organization, blending psychology and dance within a curriculum designed to inspire and empower youth. She continued to nurture her digital media skills through internships and side marketing jobs, but the industry was still heavily impacted by the economic downturn. Though her passion for digital media never left, she waited patiently for the right time. In the meantime, the arts and education sustained her. By 2017, while serving as a public school Performing Arts Teacher and Business Owner, a persistent inner restlessness—a divine inner witness—urged her to return to that old graduate-school project and transform it into a real website. In January 2018, she stepped away from the public school system to pursue more flexible work that could financially support her creative calling. The digital media landscape had finally stabilized, and digital marketing was thriving. She returned to the field by accepting a role with an online radio station based in Charlotte, NC and Atlanta, GA. The first step in this new chapter was refreshing her early school portfolio blog, The Life—a platform designed to highlight the businesses, careers, and creative work of classmates, mentors, and friends. It served as a place of honor, advocacy, and storytelling. From the blog came small design projects, business cards, and simple graphics for fellow entrepreneurs with whom she had established long-standing relationships. The Marketing Truth website officially launched in 2018, but the company did not become a registered freelance business until the height of the 2020 pandemic. As filmmakers shifted to virtual collaboration, new opportunities emerged to work on film sets, produce short and feature-length films, and create original content. This period allowed Ashley to update her film reel for the first time since graduate school. It also birthed the company’s own “pandemic baby”—the online cooking show Cooking with Katina. During this time, Ashley worked remotely in digital marketing to support two side businesses, while also scouting small business owners who might benefit from the services offered by the company she worked for. That search led to a divine connection with Patricia Williams of Thee Blueprint Collective (formerly The Collective Connection) through an online Black business network. Patricia encouraged Ashley to begin marketing her own services within the community—a suggestion that became a turning point. Following that advice opened doors to speak at Meet & Greets, collaborate with other entrepreneurs, gain strong client leads for Marketing Truth, and even teach marketing courses to small business owners. These opportunities solidified the company’s direction and fueled its growth. From that point forward, Marketing Truth, LLC grew steadily, intentionally, and purposefully. Today, it stands as a thriving, fully functioning freelance marketing and production company—rooted in faith, guided by God, powered by creativity, and grounded in the belief that every positive brand carries a story worth telling. Marketing Truth exists to shine Light, share the Truth, and bring clarity and healing in a digital world that can be dark when hearts and motives are not aligned with the right purpose. |
